Good afternoon.
It has once again been a while since my last post and so I'm afraid this is going to be a long one.
Since Saturday, I have toured downtown Reims, started class, visited the Carte de Sejour people, and been to the French equivalent of Costco. But most importantly: the number of consecutive days without rain in Reims has increased to 11. And it's a pleasant 23 degrees. How's Ottawa, guys?
Anyways, Sunday was an enjoyable day wherein some friends and I climbed the stairs at the Cathedral in downtown Reims, visited the Musée des Beaux Arts, toured around downtown, and ended up at an Organ concert in the St. Remi Basilica. All of these things made for a very pleasant last day before class.
Monday: 6 hours of class, beginning at 9:30. Not a bad start, and the prof is very well-spoken and knowledgable on the subject of exports.
**Sidenote** I feel that I should explain here how classes work in Reims. Courses are offered in 3-week sessions. As I am taking Supérieur de Commerce classes, I have 45 hours of class over those 3 weeks. You can only been registered for one class at a time. The final exam for the courses tends to be on the last Friday of the session. There are no classes on Thursday afternoon. **End of Sidenote, slight chuckle**
There is little work to do in the exports class, but the material is mostly new and my classmates are 3rd and 4th year Master's students, so I've got my work cut out for me.
Tuesday: 8 hours of class, starting at 9 o'clock. Brutal day, but we began our group simulation of running an export business, thus finally putting all that crap we learned in HR to good use. The morning was slow, but in the afternoon the sparks flew and our group found a chemistry that will hopefully last for the rest of the simulation. Also, I watched Death Proof, which reminded how much better Quentin Tarantino is than most directors. (Tonight: Planet Terror)
Wednesday (today): 3 hours of class, some brief groupwork, then off to the CROUS to inform myself about the Carte de Sejour and my Health insurance. The Health people told me there was a better-equipped office on my campus (sigh) and the Carte de Sejour people informed me one document was missing but that I had until Oct 15th to get it. If the printers in the school library ever decide to function, I will get it. Then I went shopping. Not just at Ed's (the local discount supermarket) but at the French version of Costco: InterMarché. While at a 20-minute walk from my residence, IM has everything, and in large quantities. I should never be let in to one again, as I managed to spend 63 Euro on myself. Me, the lonely student. My next 14 meals had better be amazing. (Though I suppose the 1/2 Litre of Disaronno Amaretto may have contributed to the overall cost of groceries :D )
Hope to be on here more often in the future, I've got the next 4 days off so we'll have to see. Good Night and Good Luck!
