2 weeks of absence, 1 day of Remembrance

Dear Readers,

It has been 2 weeks since my last post. For this, I apologize.

In this time, I have begun a course known as "Business Development & Vente Complexe".
For those of you who haven't heard me complain yet, this course is by far the most fun, useful, and demanding that I've taken. The profs are very knowledgable and very intense. Every day I wonder whether I'll make it through. My final presentation is this Friday. Wish me luck!

Other than that, I have reserved my hotel in Madrid, and my whole trip to Spain from Monday, November 23rd to Sunday, November 29th, is set.

A recap of my social life in the last two weeks: while I only went to one major party, it was, well, a Major party. To celebrate the fall of the Berlin wall 20 years ago, Monday November 9th, there was somewhat of a clubbing night. The beer and spirits consumed amazed even me. The party was held at a club called "Le Jockey", and began at 8. I was eating dinner at the time, and had a beer before I left. While waiting at the bus stop with Tamas, we decided it would be a good idea to have a beer. We stopped at his friend's apartment on the way downtown, where I had a shot of Hungarian Schnapps. Then we walked over to the club, arriving around 9:30. 2 beer later, around midnight, the bar announced it was completely dry. There were 100 students from over 10 countries in that club, and so everyone went outside to enjoy either a cigarette, a conversation, or both. The crowd dispersed around 2:30 am, but that did not discourage me from staying around in 0 degree weather talking to some friends until *ahem* 5 in the morning. I walked home at this point, when my friend realized he had class at 9. I arrive at 6. I even talked to some of you on MSN when I got home. It was a good night.

I also found out that my 4th course (and last before Christmas) ends on Wednesday the 16th, giving me 6 days before I have to head to Voisins. I'm thinking, Strasbourg and one of Germany or Austria. Reasons to pick either one can be submitted in the comments.

My shopping trips have also become quite expensive and frequent. Now that I am a member of each Match and Intermarché, I spend more now to save more later. Recently, I went to Intermarché and racked up a 75 Euro bill. Ouch. But I got 5 E off! You see my issue? (note: a friend of mine actually spent 29 of the 75, so I'm slightly less screwed than it seems)

My last note for today pertains to Remembrance Day, the day that Canadians everywhere take to pay tribute to those who fought in the Great War. I was lucky enough to get to Vimy Ridge this year, and though I was not able to make the ceremony, just seeing the site was a very humbling experience. While I had already been once before, it had new meaning. Maybe it was the monument's new imposing whiteness against the landscape (as it was restored in the last 2 years), or maybe just a new understanding of what it all means. Below I have included a selection of photos taken on that day. On a final note, I want to say that every Canadian should visit either Vimy, or the D-Day beaches, or Beaumont-Hamel, or any of the 30-some sites where Canadians fought for Europe, for Canada, and the freedom we enjoy today. The pictures may not do the monument justice, but I hope you all understand its importance to our country.
